Stopping smoking
Quit today!
Quitting smoking is one of the most important things you and your partner can do when planning a pregnancy. Women and men who smoke may have reduced fertility and men who smoke can suffer from erection difficulties.
Health risks of smoking
It is best to stop smoking before conceiving because if you smoke when you're pregnant, you put your unborn baby's health at risk, as well as your own.
Smoking increases the risk of complications such as:
- fertility problems
- miscarriage
- premature (early) birth
- stillbirth
- problems with your baby's development
- a low birth weight baby
There are a large number of other health problems associated with smoking too such as cancer, stroke and heart disease.
