National Simplicity Day

The modern world is a complex, stressful and chaotic place for many of us and that has lots of negative consequences for both our physical and mental health.

There’s a lot to be said for de-cluttering, stepping back and simplifying our lives.

Saturday, 12 July, is National Simplicity Day, which is a time when we’re all encouraged to focus on the simple things, which are often the aspects of our lives that bring us the greatest joy and contentment.

By cutting out unnecessary distractions and excesses from our lives we can help to enjoy more peace, which in turn can make us more creative.

Some ideas for making your life more stressful are:

  • Disconnect from Technology: Take a break from your phone, tablet, etc., and the constant distractions of social media, emails and notifications. Instead connect with family, friends, or nature.
  • Declutter: Spend time getting rid of what you don’t need, both physically and mentally.
  • Spend Time in Nature: Go for a walk in the park, hike in the woods, or simply sit outside and enjoy the fresh air.
  • Practice Mindfulness: Focus on the here and now by engaging in meditation or deep breathing.
  • Simplify Your Commitments: Review your schedule and commitments. Consider reducing activities that cause stress, freeing up time for what truly matters to you.
