World Breastfeeding Week | 1–7 August 2025
World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is celebrated every year from 1 to 7 August, and this year’s theme is “Invest in breastfeeding, invest in the future” – highlighting the need for support and information for every mother to be able to breastfeed for as long as she wishes to do so.
We recognise the many benefits that breastfeeding can offer for both mother and baby. From strengthening the immune system to supporting healthy development, breastfeeding plays an important role in the lifelong health and wellbeing of children.
Why Breastfeeding Matters:
- It provides ideal nutrition and antibodies to support a baby’s development
- It lowers the risk of infections, asthma, obesity, and certain illnesses
- It supports bonding between parent and baby
- It reduces risk of breast and ovarian cancers in mothers
Did You Know?
- Breast milk adapts to your baby’s changing needs, even day-to-day
- It’s recommended to breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months
- Support makes a big difference — never hesitate to reach out for help
